Aries personality traits
Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, a cardinal fire sign ruled by Mars. The Sun enters Aries at the spring equinox, when the astrological year begins, and that sense of beginning runs through everything Aries does. People born between March 21 and April 19 tend to be energetic, straightforward and quick to act.
Cardinal signs start things, and fire signs bring heat and enthusiasm, so Aries is the purest initiator in the zodiac. Give an Aries a problem and they will be halfway into solving it before the meeting has finished describing it. Mars, the planet of drive and desire, makes them competitive — often most of all with themselves.
The ram charges head first, and so does Aries. They say what they think, they want what they want, and they rarely hold a grudge for long, because by tomorrow they are already chasing something new. There is an innocence to Aries: a belief that if something is worth doing, it is worth doing now.
Aries strengths
Courage is the defining Aries gift. They will make the first phone call, ask the awkward question, volunteer for the hard job. Where other signs weigh the risks, Aries feels the pull of the challenge and goes.
Aries is also refreshingly honest. You rarely have to guess what an Aries feels — it is on their face and usually in their words. That directness makes them trustworthy: they won't flatter you, and they won't talk behind your back.
Add energy, optimism and a fast recovery from setbacks, and Aries becomes the person who gets a stuck project, team or friendship moving again.
Aries weaknesses
The same speed that makes Aries brave can make them impatient. They may start more than they finish, lose interest once the exciting part is over, or push others to move at a pace that suits only Aries.
Aries can also be quick-tempered. Anger flares fast and fades fast — but the people around them may still be stinging long after Aries has forgotten the argument.
The growth path for Aries is learning that slowing down is not the same as giving up, and that listening is a form of action too.
Aries doesn't wait to feel ready. Aries starts, and lets readiness catch up.
Aries in love
In love, Aries is a pursuer. They like the chase, the spark, the feeling of falling fast. An Aries who is interested will usually make it obvious — there is little playing hard to get.
What keeps Aries in a relationship is aliveness. They need a partner who has their own fire, who can match their energy, argue back when needed and suggest the next adventure. Routine without excitement makes Aries restless.
Aries is loyal and protective once committed, and generous with affection. Their lesson in love is patience: real intimacy grows slower than attraction, and that slowness is where it gets its depth.
The Aries man
The Aries man is usually confident, active and direct. He likes to lead, to compete and to win, and he is often at his best in a crisis, when decisive action is needed.
He respects people who are straight with him. Hints and silent treatments confuse him; clear words work. Behind the bravado there is often a surprisingly tender, almost boyish heart that wants to be someone's hero.
The Aries woman
The Aries woman is independent, bold and quick-witted. She tends to know her own mind early and to go after what she wants without waiting for permission.
She values honesty and equality and has little patience for games. A partner or friend who supports her ambitions — rather than trying to slow her down — will find her fiercely loyal and endlessly energising company.
Aries at work and in career
Aries thrives where there is a challenge, a goal and room to act. Entrepreneurship, sales, sport, emergency services, the military, surgery, start-ups and any role that rewards initiative can suit them well.
As a colleague, Aries is the one who gets things started and keeps the energy high. They struggle with slow bureaucracy, long approval chains and repetitive tasks. The best Aries careers give them a target and then get out of their way.
Aries as a friend
An Aries friend is fun, spontaneous and protective. They will drag you out of the house, defend you loudly and tell you the truth even when you would rather not hear it.
To be a good friend to Aries, keep up — or at least say yes sometimes. And when they lose their temper, don't take it too personally; an honest conversation the next day usually clears the air completely.
